Water Saving Tips
With the introduction of water metres and the changes in our weather patterns the need to save water is now more important than ever. Water is required for life and so as things are changing all around us we need to take care of this precious resource.
We have listed some water saving tips that can help you to save water and money at the same time along with our environment.

Ensure you know where the stopcock is in your home. Turn it from time to time to check that it is functioning properly. If you discover any problems contact your water supplier.

Always keep the telephone number of a reliable plumber or two on hand for that unexpected event.

When brushing your teeth don’t leave the tap running.

Use a cup or mug and help children to conserve water by implementing this tip.

Take a shower instead of a bath. NB this does not apply to power showers which can use as much water as a bath. Fit a shower head that save water such as our Flowpoint shower head. See Our Flowpoint Shower heads Section

If you must take a bath share it with other members of the family.

When washing, put the plug in the plughole and on fill the bowl up with as much water as you would need.

Fit a water saving device especially if you have an older toilet as they use up more water that newer ones.

If you need to buy a new toilet think about buying a dual flush cistern which allows you the option of a large or short flush.

Instead of buying a full size toilet, why not invest in a slim line version which uses less water.

Only flush when necessary.

When washing up or preparing food never leave the tap running.

Water the garden with water from the washing up or the bath so long as it is not too soapy.

Use tap water instead of buying in water. Chill it in the fridge and enjoy.

Mend any taps that are leaking or dripping as soon as you discover them.

When buying a new dish washer buy one that is energy and water efficient.

Put your dishwasher on when it has a full load.

Mix all your waste fat and grease with some nuts, raisins and seeds to form a bird cake.

Hang it in the garden to feed the birds. Don’t put these down the sink as it will block you sewage system and this could cost you money to have the drains unblocked.

When buying a new washing machine, buy one with an ’A’ rated energy efficiency. Old washing machines tend to use a lot of water.

Again only put the machine on with a full load. Usually half loaded programmes are not all that efficient.

When it is time to wash the car, use a sponge, a bucket and some detergent instead of using the pressure washer or hosepipe.
